Top 10 Christmas Movies

Without further ado, here they are:

1 – A Very Harold And Kumar Christmas

I’ve never been much of a Harold & Kumar fan – I’m not exactly their target audience. However, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. See you in the next one.

2 – Batman Returns

I love this movie, it’s my favourite non-Nolan Batman one. You can’t deny this is a very Christmassy movie. I wish Burton would go back to making stuff like this once in a while.

3 – Die Hard

The ultimate Christmas movie and what’s not to love? Christmas just isnĀ“t Christmas without John McClaine and yipee-kay-yay…

4 – El Dia de la Bestia

Not really a Christmas movie, the action does take place on Christmas Day. This is a good one to watch if you can’t stand the Yuletide.

5 – Gremlins

This movie deserves to be on this list just for this quote: “The worst thing that ever happened to me was on Christmas. Oh, God. It was so horrible. It was Christmas Eve. I was 9 years old. Me and Mom were decorating the tree, waiting for Dad to come home from work. A couple hours went by. Dad wasn’t home. So Mom called the office. No answer. Christmas Day came and went, and still nothing. So the police began a search. Four or five days went by. Neither one of us could eat or sleep. Everything was falling apart. It was snowing outside. The house was freezing, so I went to try to light up the fire. That’s when I noticed the smell. The firemen came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Mom were expecting them to pull out a dead cat or a bird. And instead they pulled out my father. He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He’d been climbing down the chimney… his arms loaded with presents. He was gonna surprise us. He slipped and broke his neck. He died instantly. And that’s how I found out there was no Santa Claus.”

6 – Lethal Weapon

Another good one to watch if you’ve had enough of the holidays but need to watch a Christmassy movie.

7 – Love, Actually

One of the very few movies that get me in a Christmassy mood. Yes, it’s schamltzy as hell and a sentimental trap but I don’t care. It puts me in a good mood and just look at that cast. Not everyone’s story has a happy ending which suits me fine.

8 – Rare Exports

A recent addition to my Christmas staple list. However, you have to admit that a movie in which Santa is the bad guy is a must-see. I imagine the Hollywood remake is due any year now.

9 – The Nightmare Before Christmas

This is the movie that kicks off the Christmas watching season and whats not to love about it? What’s This is now a classic Christmas song as far as I’m concerned.

10 – Trading Places

One of my favourite all-time comedies. It’s so well executed and always makes me laugh. Forget about Billy Bob: Dan Ackroyd is the Bad Santa.
